Cotton Mather's "Spawn of a VVitch" Illustration Book Insert
Cotton Mather represents the human experience when education meets experience. His understanding and response to witchcraft and its practitioners has grown and shifted drastically throughout the series; even from despising John Alden to endearing to him as a dear friend. He loved, he fought, he cried, and he rejoiced, but through it all, his love for fellow man stayed true. When John Alden came back from supposed death, he uncharacteristically turned Cotton's Study upside down in search of more information on the Salem witches. This illustration can be seen in episode five of season two.
